Welsh Secondary Schools Renewable Energy Competition

Bridgend students encouraged to enter renewable energy competition

Students from secondary schools and FE colleges across Bridgend are being encouraged to enter a competition to design a green hydrogen energy system, to win an all-expenses-paid trip to London.

The hydrogen schools competition is being sponsored by Marubeni Europower and Hyppo Hydrogen Solutions to get young people thinking about creative green solutions that will maximise environmental, social and economic benefits. Teams of up to six students can apply together and, alongside the design, they will be required to present their designs, supporting students’ communication skills.

Tomoki Nishino, President & CEO of Marubeni Europower added:

This competition offers students a unique opportunity to think about future renewable energy and how that could look. We like to hear students’ ideas and reflect that in the decarbonisation projects we’re developing, which provide long-lasting, positive change to future generations.”

Chris Foxall, CEO of Hyppo, said:

Encouraging young people to think about hydrogen and its local benefits is what this competition is about. Making young people aware of hydrogen’s potential for transport, industry and heating is important to inspire them in future careers and we look forward to judging their designs.

Schools are asked to register before Monday 8th January 2024, with video, presentation or report submissions due on 1st March 2024.
